SONAMOO member Minjae directly addressed a male fan who accused her of smoking at a fan meeting event last Feb. 19. Despite the tension, the idol was able to manage the situation without causing a scene.
According to Koreaboo, a male fan at SONAMOO's fan meeting in Gwangju told Minjae that she should quit smoking. The remarks came after the girl group performed and the idol was seen running out of breath.
Reports stated that Minjae had an exchange of words with the male fan after hearing his suggestion. However, the SONAMOO member remained calm and shared her thoughts in a polite way.
"I'm so tired," Minjae said after the performance, in which the male fan replied, "You should quit smoking." After hearing this, the idol turned to him and answered, "What are you talking about? I can't even stand the smell of it!"
The SONAMOO member rejected the remarks and added that she dislikes those kinds of jokes. On the other hand, the male fan immediately apologized to Minjae for his rude comment.
Following the encounter, Minjae has been receiving praises for defending herself. Some of them were impressed that the idol gracefully handled the situation without making it worse.
"Finally someone who can stand up for herself," a fan wrote. Another one said, "What a courteous response. I would have told him to get raised properly."
Minjae and the rest of SONAMOO just made their comeback in January as per Soompi. The girl group returned with the release of their first single album, titled "I Think I Love U."
Previous claims stated the seven-member girl group was supposed to release a mini-album for their comeback this year. However, SONAMOO's agency, TS Entertainment, announced about the first single album in December.
The official music video of "I Think I Love U" was produced by Shin Hyuk, the brain behind EXO's "Growl," VIXX's "Voodoo Doll," SHINee's "Dream Girl" and others.
