BTS was mired in controversy after performing "Save Me" and "Blood, Sweat & Tears" at the 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards on Wednesday. While nothing was wrong with the group's presentation, BIGBANG fans took notice of BTS' stage design.
Reports stated the similarities between BTS and T.O.P's stage designs resulted to "copying" controversy, arousing anger among their respective fandoms.
BIGBANG's VIPs even called out BTS to apologize for the "copying" issue. However, ARMYs fired back at them and defended their idols. To clear things out, Big Hit Entertainment clarified they were not in-charge of the stage design.
The statement did not stop VIPs and ARMYs from arguing about the issue. Hence, Gaon Chart has stepped up to acknowledge their mistake in the preparation. According to Allkpop, the executive office of the event admitted that they have overlooked the details of BTS' performance.
"The executive office has validated that the production team failed to thoroughly monitor the used video footage, and that the team further failed to adequately explain the involved footage or provide a preview of the results to BTS and their party," it said.
Gaon Chart ended their statement with an apology to BTS and BIGBANG for causing them trouble. "We bow our heads in apology to all those whose hearts were negatively affected by this issue," the statement said.
The 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards featured excellent performances from the most popular K-Pop acts. Soompi cited the lineup for this year's ceremony include rising girl group BLACKPINK, MAMAMOO, TWICE, GFRIEND and SISTAR.
