Although a first-timer in the acting scene, Irene of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet receives positive reviews from the viewers for her role in her web drama series “Female Employees of a Game Company.”
According to Soompi, Irene was praised by an industry expert for her acting skill. He commented that the 25-year-old singer is effortlessly carrying out her role with finesse, and even added that her adjustment to her character comes greatly quick.
Meanwhile, some viewers indicated that the singer’s character in the series seemed compelling to them. They further added that Irene’s character suited her well, especially her nerdy outfit.
“Female Employees of a Game Company” is based on the popular webcomic series of the same title published by the South Korean website Webtoon. The drama series unfolds the story of Areum (portrayed by Irene) who works in at a game company and aims to be successful through a game together with her co-workers, All KPop reported.
Irene was casted by the entertainment company giant S.M. entertainment in 2009. Five years later, she was rumored to be a part of the Red Velvet alongside Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri.
On August 2015, Red Velvet was formally declared as a group and had their first performance in the music program “Music Program” on KBS2. Their first full-length studio album was launched a moth after their debut.
Born as Bae Joohyun, Irene is considered as the group’s band leader. She is also the main rapper and lead dancer.
