Former Manchester United player and assistant coach Ryan Giggs is rumored to be replacing head coach Chris Coleman as Wales national team manager after the latter is linked to a managerial post with Premier League's newly-promoted side Hull City.
Caught Offside reported that the 42-year-old Man United legend is "being lined up to manage Wales" after he resigned as assistant coach of the club after the arrival of new boss Jose Mourinho at the Old Trafford this summer.
The report noted that Giggs' resignation was "motivated by his desire to become a manager" himself. Giggs and Mourinho were the top two choices of United officials to succeed sacked manager Louis van Gaal last May, but eventually the Old Trafford influencers opted to hire the Portuguese mentor to take the club's reins next season.
However, the Cardiff, Wales native could still get the opportunity he is looking for as the Dragons are said to be trying to lure him as their head coach should current manager Coleman moves to Hull City before the start of the new English top flight season.
Rumors are out that the Tigers have offered Coleman three times of the current salary he receives from the Dragons and the 46-year-old Welshman is said to be interested and set a meeting to discuss the offer.
Giggs is reportedly the natural replacement or Coleman should the latter opt to accept the Hull City job as the 24-year Red Devils midfielder is considered as "one of the greatest Wales players of all time" even though he had only appeared 64 times for his country.
Should Giggs land the Wales role, it would be his "first permanent role in management" after being United's assistant since July 2013. He briefly acted as interim manager and player for the club in 2012 when David Moyes was sacked.
Meanwhile, the Mirror indicated that Hull City's offer for Coleman was turned down by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) as he recently signed a two-year deal with the governing body.
A Coleman exit is still possible, however, and so the report also confirmed that the FAW are closely looking at Giggs as Coleman's potential replacement.
