Newly-acquired striker Zlatan Ibrahimović scored the winning goal for FA Cup winners Manchester United in their 2-1 Community Shield victory over the reigning Premier League champions Leicester City in a match held at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The 34-year-old forward won his 31st career trophy with this year's Community Shield conquest, which also marked his first competitive game for the Red Devils after featuring in two preseason matches.
Leicester City was actually the more aggressive team to start the match with an early shot on goal by Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki that hit David De Gea's crossbar, Daily Mail Online reported.
However, it was the Red Devils who were more cohesive as starting right winger Jesse Lingard pulled off a remarkable dribbling penetration move to break the deadlock at the 32nd minute off an assist from team captain Wayne Rooney.
It was also the 23-year-old Englishman who gave United the FC Cup win over Crystal Palace back in May after he scored the winning goal in extra time.
New Red Devils head coach Jose Mourinho acknowledged Lingard, saying that the midfielder got the start over another newcomer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, in this match because he was the reason why the team is competing for the Community Shield to start the new season.
The Foxes found the equalizer seven minutes after the restart when striker Jamie Vardy converted a Marouane Fellaini blunder.
However, the Red Devils got the last laugh as self-proclaimed "god of Manchester" Ibrahimović netted the winner at the 83rd with a perfect-angled header against Leicester captain Wes Morgan off a brilliant looping cross from Ecuadorian talisman Antonio Valencia, as per ESPN.
"It feels good. First official game we played for the trophy and we win, it's what it's all about, winning trophies. This is my 31st trophy. I'm super happy. This is why I came. Hopefully I can win much more than this," said Ibrahimović after the match.
"It was a difficult game, we play against a good team, the champions from last season. Our team has something big going on, it's a good start," Ibrahimović said.
The former Paris Saint-Germain top scorer also has some praises for his newfound teammates and old coach.
"I feel very good. The team is fantastic, good teammates, good spirit, good professional players and the coach - he wants to win and does everything to win," he added.
