Emma Stone sings the melancholy tune "Audition" in Lionsgate/Summit's "La La Land" teaser trailer. This new trailer has been recently released.
According to Variety, the song "Audition" came from the six original songs in the upcoming musical "La La Land." Stone sings over a dialogue-free trailer. The musical revolves around an aspiring actress Mia (Stone) and struggling jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling). They struggle to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Their relationship starts to decline as their careers mature.
The story of "La La Land" is set in the modern Los Angeles, as Deadline reported. "Whiplash" producer Damien Chazelle is using it only as a jumping off point in the original musical about everyday life that explores the joy and pain of pursuing dreams.
The musical "La La Land" is a reunion of Stone and Gosling after appearing together first in the romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" in 2011 and then in the crime thriller "Gangster Squad" in 2013. It is scheduled to have its world premiere on Aug. 31 at Venice Film Festival 2016. The festival will continue from Aug. 31 to Sept. 10. Alberto Barbera stated that the musical does not only reinvent the musical genre but also gives it a brand new start.
The first trailer for "La La Land" was Gosling crooning about "City Stars." Other cast members are Finn Wittrock, John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, and "Whiplash" star J. K. Simmons who won the best supporting actor trophy. The highly-acclaimed film "Whiplash" also won two Academy Awards.
Lionsgate opens the musical film "La La Land" in a limited release on Dec. 2 and is set to go nationwide on Dec. 16.
