"Shadowhunters" has added Alisha Wainwright to its Season 2 cast.
Freeform on Friday has announced that Wainwright will play the werewolf named Maia, a character based on Casssandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" - who works as a bartender at the Hunters Moon. In "Shadowhunters" Season 2, Maia will be introduced as a new member of Luke's pack.
According to TV Line, Maia is a character who tries to fit in by using humor and sarcasm to mask her real feelings which are mostly linked to her dark past. While she has no intentions of unleashing her violent side, Valentine's possession of the Mortal Cup will trigger her to fight her enemies. In the books, however, Maia developed a romantic relationship with Simon. It is yet to be known whether or not the writers of "Shadowhunters" will follow this direction for the troubled werewolf in Season 2. Wainwright, whose recent TV credits include "Switched at Birth" and "Rosewood," took to Twitter to express her excitement for landing the role. On Friday, she thanked author Cassandra Clare for writing the "kickass" character of Maia.
In addition to Maia's arrival, "Shadowhunters" Season 2 will also see some major players going through giant transformations. Executive producer Ed Decter has teased back in April that there will be "a lot in store" for Simon's girlfriend Maureen, Jocelyn and Luke in the new installments. The introduction of the Seelie Queen, who is yet to be cast, was also mentioned.
As for Jace, Decter warned that fans should be very worried about him in, as the writers have plotted a very dark journey ahead for him on "Shadowhunters" Season 2.
"Shadowhunters" Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 9PM on Freeform.
