Long-running animated comedy "The Simpsons" just dropped their first episode for season 28. Instead of the regular couch gag as their intro, the popular Sunday night animated staple took inspiration from Cartoon Network's "Adventure Time."

The animated intro re-imagined the entire town of Springfield as the world of "Adventure Time." Although most characters are simply transferred to the world of Jake and Finn, some actually became the characters of the popular animated series. Mr. Burns became Ice King while Homer became Jake the Dog and Bart became Finn the Human.

This is not the first time "The Simpsons" took inspiration from other cartoons. According to Uproxx, the popular animated series crossed paths with other animated series and even movies in their couch gag. "Frozen," various Disney movies and "Rick and Morty" had their turn in being part of the popular animated opening.

Aside from collaboration through couch gags, "The Simpsons" actually had crossover episodes with other animated series. "Futurama" and "Family Guy" appeared in one of the episodes of the show. Seth McFarlane's "Family Guy" crossover was notable for the epic fist fight of the two heads of the family while "Futurama" and "The Simpsons" crossover is expected (but still notable) because both animated series were created by Matt Groening.

According to Nerdist, the couch gag sequence was not directed by the creator of "Adventure Time." However, Pendleton Ward still had a role for the intro since the lyrics of the theme song were changed to introduce Bart and Homer Simpson. Ward sang the intro theme song of his series and he was also the voice behind the intro theme song for the latest episode of "The Simpsons."

"The Simpsons" is one of the most successful TV series in US. In its 28 seasons, it is the longest running sitcom and scripted series for primetime TV. "Adventure Time" maybe relatively new compared to the popular animated sitcom but the popular animated show on Cartoon Network recently ended their season 7 and it's expected to return for another season.
