This year is the time for remasters ... or, rather, just announcements of said remasters. During game conventions, developers of big titles have announced their previous franchises returning to the next generation console. Developers such as Square Enix, that is, with the return of their PS2 big title, "Final Fantasy XII."
Earlier in June this year, Square Enix announced that the PlayStation 2 JRPG will be returning as "Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age," according to Game Reactor. Just recently, the big heads behind the "Final Fantasy" franchise just released a trailer during the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2016, introducing (or "reintroducing" for those who played the PS2 version before) players to the world of Ivalice and the main characters of the story.
The story takes place in the kingdom of Dalmasca, where a young princess named Ashe gathers a resistance group against a foreign army. She bumps into Vaan, a would-be sky pirate who was orphaned during the war. Both of them band together with a few more characters fight off monsters and the forces of evil throughout the exotic and magical world of Ivalice.
Another "Final Fantasy XII" title called "Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings" was a sequel to the PS2 game and was released on 2007 for the Nintendo DS.
According to Nerdist, the remastered version has been tweaked and given a facelift to give new players a fresh start into the world. Also being added into the game is the Zodiac Job System, hence the name "Zodiac Age." The system lets players select from the 12 signs of the Zodiac for a certain job progression given in the game. This supposed to be released as part of the "Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System," but it never made it to North America.
"Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age" will be released exclusively for the PS4 in 2017.
