"Arrow," which is slated to comeback on Jan. 20, may have a twist to its story, as confirmed by its executive producer Wendy Mericle. It is said that "Arrow" will not run on similar lines, and the character Oracle will not be the same as what fanatics seen in the DC Entertainments "Oracle : The Cure."

Speculations did run high in the wake of a recent promo hinting that Felicity Smoak, after being shot down, would wind up at least temporarily paralyzed and eventually become Oracle - the wheelchair-using, tech-savvy alter ego typically assigned to DC Comics' Barbara Gordon.

Mericle spoke to TV Line and mentions that although the possibility was discussed earlier by Team Arrow, sadly, this is not going to happen, and "People will have to tune in to see what happens next."

Having Felicity lose her ability to walk, as a direct result of Oliver's action, adds some drama back into the show. According to Mericle, it will be interesting to see the development of this twist, whether her disability becomes a permanent part of the show or proceeds to display recovery of her disability. It is said that this is sure to bring the talent of Felicity Smoak played by Emily Rickards.

Since her introduction as the nervous IT girl with a crush on her boss, Felicity has grown into one of the most lovable characters on TV. Her endless optimism and sense of humour has always brought lightness to "Arrow." It would be interesting to see how Felicity's viewpoint changes and evolves after surviving a trauma of this magnitude.

There is good scope for creating drama, and viewers would welcome the emotions that will be offered by the life-altering event affecting our favorite tech genius. It is likely to divide opinions among viewers, and Stephen Amell, playing Oliver, will be shown as being in a vengeful mood when the series returns on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

"Oliver's thirst for vengeance consumes him when #Arrow returns Wednesday, January 20 at 8/7c!" tweeted Arrow in its Official Twitter Account.
