Snapchat (now known as Snap Inc.) recently made waves in the tech world by introducing "Spectacles," a companion glass for the highly popular social media application. While it may look like Google Glass at first glance, it has five features that could pave the way for more wearable devices in the future.

Pricing

Google glass was a revolutionary device as it practically allows users to interact with anyone without the aid of a mobile device. Sure, you can use your Google glass to take pictures, chat and send messages but a hands-free interaction is not worth the $1,500 price tag. On the other hand, Wall Street Journal reported that Spectacles will retail at $129.99.

Notification of Video Recording

Privacy is one of the biggest concerns of tech users and having a wearable that could take videos without notification is downright wrong. Spectacles may have answered that problem with a very simple feature: light notification. A small light automatically switches on when the device is recording.

Circular Video Recording

Probably the most unique feature about Spectacles is its video rendering. Instead of the regular framing for video output, the device records with circular video output. It also features 115-degree view field which should give wider vision to the viewer. No indication yet as to the actual video quality of the device.

Videos Only

Although Snap, as an application can accept pictures and videos, the device is only good for video captures. A single press of a button allows the owner to record 10-second videos and could stop at any second. The camera also allows the owner to string three 10-second videos (30 seconds in total) for uploading.

Uploading through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth

The device does not automatically upload the video online on its own. It still needs the aid of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi which depends if you're using Android or iOS, according to CNET

Mobile Charging

One notable feature of the wearable is the device can last a day. But for heavy users, Snap is also offering a case that also functions as a mobile charger. The mobile charger/case allows the Spectacle to last for four days.

Snap has yet to announce the availability of the device in the market. But the tech world is already excited to get their hands on the latest wearable that offers unique features for a specific application.
