Highly-anticipated "Luke Cage" will finally hit the small screens on Sept. 28, following Marvel's decision to prioritize the Mike Colter starrer over "Iron Fist." According to "Luke Cage" showrunner Cheo Coker, Marvel turned the table after considering the success of "Jessica Jones."
During an interview, Coker said the initial plan was to air "Iron Fist" first before "Luke Cage." However, the proposal was changed after "Jessica Jones" was well-received by the audience and recorded decent ratings.
"Marvel went from, 'We're gonna take our time' to 'Let's flip it and do 'Luke Cage' first. We've got this great concept and this guy is leaping off the screen, let's follow the momentum,'" ComicBook quoted Coker as saying.
The "Luke Cage" showrunner even shared that Colter was surprised when he told him they are broadcasting earlier than planned. "I called Mike and he's freaking out: "We're having a baby, my wife's going to leave me!" I had to calm him down," Coker revealed.
Although there are fans of "Iron Fist" who are unhappy about the delay, most of them recognize the need of Netflix to change their pace considering the streaming company has "Daredevil," which is somewhat similar to "Iron Fist" than of "Luke Cage."
"Iron Fist" stars Finn Jones who takes the role of Danny Rand a.k.a. the Iron Fist. The development of the TV series started in 2013. In July, Marvel released the first trailer of "Iron Fist" during the San Diego Comic-Con, LA Times reported.
Jones is known for playing as Loras Tyrell on HBO's "Game Of Thrones." Aside from that, he was also featured in "Doctors," "The Sarah Jane Adventures" and "Life In Squares."
Meanwhile, watch out for the premier of "Luke Cage" on Sept. 28 and stay tuned for the release of the full series on Sept. 30 on Netflix.
