What comes to gamers' minds when they see a character like the well-known Italian plumber and Nintendo icon Mario? Most of us would commonly label him as a man who's around 30 or 40 years old. But, surprisingly, Nintendo's very own Shigeru Miyamoto corrects that saying that Mario is much younger than that - maybe around his 20's?
There was actually an interview (via Ars Technica) around 11 years ago that resurfaced, tackling on the characteristics of the Italian plumber we know and love. Miyamoto mentioned that almost anything about Mario is not yet clearly defined, giving him the opportunity to change and evolve in every title Nintendo intends to release. His age, however, is a constant factor.
Miyamoto added that the company "didn't put any restrictions on Mario as a character." Aside from the fact that he's around in his 20's (estimated to be 24 to 25 years old), Nintendo hasn't defined anything else.
Mario's creator also added: ""When we make a game we take care not to add incongruence to that game's world. With that caveat, I'd like to keep using Mario in future games."
Gamespot also made a reference to the live adaptation of the game back in 1993 that starred actor Bob Hoskins as the titular character Mario. Even if the movie was terrible, the actor did an okay job in pulling off gaming history's iconic character.
Other appearances of Mario had versions of him as a baby such as in games like "Yoshi's Island," the "Mario Kart" series, and several "Mario" sports games.
The character of Mario made his first appearance in the original "Donkey Kong" game, which was 35 years ago. Then in 1983, the first "Mario Bros." game was released after. It was actually the succeeding game "Super Mario Bros." introduced the classic "Mario" platforming in 1985, which is mostly known to every gaming generation.
