"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "New Girl" are two of the funniest sitcoms today and they're having a crossover. These two sitcoms, helmed by Andy Samberg and Zooey Deschanel are going to cross paths for one night only where they trade their signature clumsy, yet funny bones.
As crossovers have been very effective lately, two popular sitcoms are also getting crossover episodes to highlight how they work together. On Oct. 11, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will feature stars from "New Girl" and vice versa. Andy Samberg's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will start the crossover according to TV Line, as he works with Zooey Deschanel's Jess in order to solve his first case back in the precinct.
On the other hand, Jess and the gang will interact with the characters at "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" as they stay in New York for Schmidt's high school award. While Jess and Jake's funny interaction is expected, the supporting storyline of Det. Boyle, Cece, Winston and Nick is also an interesting event.
Crossovers are common nowadays as networks are looking for creative ways to get audiences interested in other shows by showing them that these shows actually connect with each other. CW has been very successful with their "Flash," "Arrow" and "Supergirl" crossover while "The Simpsons" have worked with pretty much with all animated comedy series.
According to Futon Critic, the crossover is the fourth episode in each series. The storyline on the crossover is also very convenient for the fans because it's practically an hour-long special. The crossover starts with "Brooklyne Nine-Nine" where Jake works with Jess and it continues in "New Girl" where Jess has to bring her gang along for the ride with the precinct's personnel.
Of course, there could be some connection between Jess and Jake in the crossover. However, they have to move on with their respective lives since they also have their own love interests in their series.
The upcoming crossover offers a different niche for avid TV viewers. While most of the crossovers are TV drama and animated series, live TV series offers a different perspective especially when the characters actually have something comedic to offer in a different series.
