"Chicago P.D." star Jon Seda shifts to the upcoming latest spinoff "Chicago Justice" as a series regular. It seems that the Intelligence unit is losing one of its members.
According to TV Line, Seda will transition to the upcoming legal offshoot "Chicago Justice" as a series regular. He plays detective Antonio Dawson. He will join the D.A.'s office as an investigator.
Seda will be partnered with "Justified" actress Joelle Carter (fellow investigator Lori Nagle) in "Chicago Justice." Carter was introduced in the backdoor pilot. As a result, investigator Daren Okada (Ryan-James Hatanaka) will no longer be part of the series moving forward.
In the planted "Chicago Justice" spinoff episode of "Chicago P.D.," Nagle was partnered with investigator Okada, Deadline reported. Dawson takes over the role since Okada is leaving. It has been speculated that it was Dick Wolf's idea to have Dawson move to the latest spinoff.
"Chicago Justice" was a creative decision based on the natural trajectory of the character Dawson. He had been hitting a wall on his intelligence beat and, as a single father, had been looking for a more stable, steady job.
"Chicago Justice" debuts midseason on NBC and will be the third "Chicago" series for Seda. Other cast members include "Strike Back" actor Philip Winchester, "Colony" actor Carl Weathers, and "UnREAL" actress Monica Barbaro. "Law & Order" vet Michael S. Chernuchin will serve as showrunner.
Seda started off as a recurring on the mothership "Chicago Fire." He and Jason Beghe were spun off to anchor spinoff "Chicago P.D." as the leads. Then, he has been a series regular on the cop drama since Day 1.
The timing of Seda's move to "Chicago Justice" is to be determined. Until then, Seda will continue to star on the cop drama "Chicago P.D." His character Dawson is set to enjoy a cross-show romance with "Chicago Fire" paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and will eventually depart for his new gig.
