"Game of Thrones" actress Rose Leslie has been cast on the upcoming spinoff project of "The Good Wife."
Following her stint on the HBO smash as Jon Snow's lover, Leslie will be taking on the world of legal drama in 2017. According to TV Line, the actress has boarded the cast of "The Good Wife" spinoff in a series regular role. She has been tapped to play Maia, Diane's (Christine Baranski) goddaughter who joins her firm shortly after passing the bar.
"We're thrilled to have Rose on board," executive producers/showrunners Robert and Michelle King in a statement.
"We needed a young actress who could hold her own with Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, and Rose is perfect. She's real, she's strong, and she can play comedy. If we designed an actress from the ground up, we couldn't have done better."
The offshoot will pick up a year later after the events of The Good Wife's series finale. According to the publication, the series will open with an enormous financial scam that has destroyed Leslie's character - an arc which will simultaneously wipe out Diane's savings in the process. Diane and Maia will then join Lucca Quinn's (Cush Jumbo) firm in Chicago.
In addition to playing Ygritte on "Game of Thrones," Leslie has also appeared on "Downton Abbey." She joins previously cast Sarah Steele, who will reprise her role as Eli Gold's daughter and become the firm's private investigator.
"We're absolutely thrilled that Sarah will be joining the show," Robert and Michelle King told Deadline last month.
"She's a magnificent comedian with the dramatic skill to keep every scene real."
The 10-episode spinoff series of "The Good Wife" will debut in February 2017 on CBS and will also be released on the network's digital platform, CBS All Access.
