"Thor: Ragnarok" star Chris Hemsworth and "Man of Steel" actor Michael Shannon are set to star in the Afghanistan war drama "Horse Soldiers" for Black Label Media. They are saddling up for the war story.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Horse Soldiers" is an adaptation of Doug Stanton's book of the same name. It was adapted into a film from a script penned by Peter Craig and Ted Tally.
"Horse Soldiers" tells the true story of a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain. The team is sent to the rugged, mountainous regions of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11 to flush out the Taliban on horseback, Variety reported.
Black Label Media is co-financing "Horse Soldiers" with "The Lone Ranger" film producer Jerry Bruckheimer and his Jerry Bruckheimer Films banner. Black Label's Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill will be the producers. Bruckheimer's Chad Oman is the executive producer.
Hemsworth is currently filming Taika Waititi's "Thor: Ragnarok" before moving on to "Avengers: Infinity War." He is coming off the latest "Ghostbusters" installment.
Hemsworth is set to appear in the next "Star Trek" installment movie as Captain Kirk's father. He is repped by CAA, Australia's Morrissey, ROAR, and Gang Tyre.
Shannon recently signed on to play George Westinghouse in Weinstein's "The Current War." He will be next seen in two movies, Tom Ford's "Nocturnal Animals" and Jeff Nichols' "Loving," both bowing this fall and generating plenty of awards buzz. He is represented by CAA, Wetzel, and Morris Yorn.
