During Korea's Liberation Day this year, a number of K-Pop idols were put into hot water for their SNS posts. Among them was Girls' Generation member Tiffany, who used the Japanese flag emoji for her Instagram post on Aug. 15.
According to Allkpop, Tiffany updated her Instagram account with a photo of herself with Girls' Generation co-members Sooyoung and Yuri amid series of shows in Japan. Tiffany reportedly captioned the Instagram post "Babes" alongside the Japanese flag and heart emojis.
Although the intention was to let her fans know she was in Japan with the Girls' Generation, the timing of the Instagram post was likely to be inappropriate as Koreans were then celebrating the country's liberation from the Japanese imperial.
However, the issue did not end there as the Girls' Generation member used the rising-sun flag filter on her Snapchat post the same day. Reports suggest the symbol was a painful reminder of Japan's rule over Korea.
After drawing backlash from her SNS followers, Tiffany issued a written apology for the mistake she has committed. The Girls' Generation owned the mistake and expressed her sincerest apology to her Korean fans.
As a result, Tiffany took a break from all her SNS accounts following the incident. However, the Girls' Generation is likely back from her short SNS hiatus after she updated her Instagram account on Wednesday with not only one, but three posts, Soompi reported.
Two of the three Instagram posts seemed to be promotional photos of a brand she's advertising. While the first post she uploaded in seven weeks was a photo of her back. The Girls' Generation member did not caption the photos, leaving her fans wonder if she is finally back on SNS.
Do you think Girls' Generation member Tiffany is finally back on SNS?
