Ever since "The Force Awakens," the "Star Wars" genre has been opening its doors to numerous spin-offs, and we don't mean TV series, comics, novels, and video games - but, actual films. While the next spin-off film will be featuring actress Felicity Jones in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," other films in the franchise are in the making, such as the upcoming young Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film starring Alden Ehrenreich as the dashing space smuggler. Of course, joining the smuggler in his young days is Lando Calrissian, who will be played by "Community" actor Donald Glover.
It was actually officially announced in the actual StarWars.com website that Lucasfilm revealed Donald Glover will be joining "Twixt" actor Alden Ehrenreich in the "Untitled Han Solo Anthology" film in 2018. The film is said to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The directors also helmed "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" (2009), "The Lego Movie" (2014), "21 Jump Street" (2012), and its sequel "22 Jump Street" (2014).
"These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations," said the two directing partners. "Also, we'd like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever."
IGN adds that Glover will be starring in the FX series "Atlanta" once again, which actually has been renewed for a second season. Glover has been known play in NBC's "Community" as college student Troy Barnes and a recording artist under the stage name Childish Gambino.
Lando Calrissian has first appeared in "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and again in "Return of the Jedi." The character has been played by actor Billy Dee Williams for both movies.
