In the latest episode of CW’s “Supergirl”, Kara’s sister was initially reluctant to team up with newcomer Maggie Sawyer. Her reluctance is due to the fact that Sawyer is a detective who has a penchant for extra-terrestrials.

After a meeting at work, Kara flies off to meet President Marsdin at the airfield. An alien with fire powers attacks her as she disembarks Air Force One. Fortunate for the Lady President, Supergirl is there to the rescue. Alex immediately assumed that the attacker is Mon-El pertaining to the burn pattern matches made by heat vision but Kara was not so sure.

After giving the President a facility tour of their headquarters, Kara then head off to interview Lena Luthor, the sister of notorious alien-loathing Lex Luthor. It appeared to Kara that while Lena is planning to run the company distance within the bounds of law, it does not mean that she does not share her brother’s views. This led to Kara writing a very biased report against Lena which was easily rejected by her editor.

Kara started her job as a reporter in the rough side of the road, where she committed the cardinal sin in journalism by injecting her opinion in a news piece. If she was aware in the first place of the nature of her job, she should have revisited her journalism lessons back in college to know the basics in news reporting.

Elsewhere, Kara and Mon-El got into a rough start where the latter grabbed the former by her throat but ended in an amicable way, through a handshake. This is to everyone’s delight upon consideration that they are from warring planets. Kara is from Krypton, a planet ruled by democracy, while Mon-El is from Daxam, a monarchy who ruled a population of hoodlums.

Finding out Mon-El is from Daxam made Kara assumed that he was responsible for attacking the president, despite Mon-El explaining he was just trying to send out a distress signal to his planet. This has revealed Kara’s implicit biases which she eventually overcame.

The next day, President Marsdin took the stage and gave a powerful speech about her commitment to making aliens feel welcomed in America, the same way it opened its arms to immigrants coming through Ellis Island. “The Statue of Liberty will stand for aliens, too,” she exclaimed.

Unfortunately, the moment is interrupted by Scorcher, who attacked the event with her fire powers. Supergirl managed to protect the president but Scorcher was able to kidnap Maggie Sawyer. Eventually, Supergirl and Alex showed up and with some help from Maggie, took care of Scorcher.

Meanwhile, J’onn aka the Martian Headhunter paid a visit to an alien bar, inspired by the unity speech delivered by President Marsdin. He did find in the bar, slinging shots and booze, the last daughter of Mars, M’gann M’orzz also known as Miss Martian.
