New Orleans Pelicans desperately looks for the first win in the second week of the regular season. Especially for Anthony Davis who made tremendous play in the the first week but the team still lost three consecutive games.

Davis scored 50 points in the opening game against Denver Nuggets and 45 points during the second game against the Golden State Warriors. However, the Pelicans lost in both home games, 102-107 against the Nuggets and 114-122 against the Warriors.

San Antonio Spurs successfully contained Davis in their third game and casually defeated Pelicans 98-79. Three consecutive losses brings the Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry to evaluate his gameplay. According to SB Nation, Pelicans got off the wrong foot and there have been very little things go the right way for either Davis and the Pelicans.

Pelicans need to improve the productivity and game play. During the first game against the Nuggets, Denver head coach Mike Malone stayed focus on their defensive strategy regardless Davis intimidating scoring ability, as reported by New York Times.

The strategy paid off very well for Denver Nuggets. Although Davis posted a remarkable 50 points, but the Nuggets won the game. However Malone once doubted whether his decision was right.

“When you play against a great player, you have a problem you need to answer,” coach Malone said. “Are you going to shut him down and create problems elsewhere, or are you going to let him get his and hope nobody else goes off?”

The Pelicans will be back in their home court the Smoothie King Center, New Orleans in the fourth game against Milwaukee Bucks at 8:00 p.m. EST tonight. They desperately needs to win, but the Bucks is a strong opponent with a good depth in their roster. Especially, the Bucks have a good coach in Jason Kidd who can read the game well.
