Up to now, diehard fans of "High School Musical" stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens couldn't wrap their head around that the fact that the former sweethearts have broken up. Even though they've date other people since the split, fans are still hoping the two would reunite in the future.
When Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens breakup reports first surfaced, it was said that the decision was mutual. The real reason, however, was not revealed. Hudgens finally opened up about the split in an interview with The New York Times, Capital FM reports.
The 27-year-old actress said he reached a point where he was fed up because there were a lot of girls running after Efron. She found herself "giving them death stares," but eventually realized that it's not what the relationship is about.
Later, Hudgens felt that she didn't want to be the jealous girlfriend for long, thus deciding to end their four-year romance.
Five years after the Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens breakup, the actress fell in love with current boyfriend Austin Butler. They've been together for five years now and are still going strong.
On the other hand, Efron was linked to several women following his split from Hudgens. More recently, he was in a two-year relationship with model Sami Miro until they broke up in April 2016. According to E! News, the breakup wasn't easy for the exes. A source cited "distance and work schedules" as the main reason for their parting ways. It was also said that although they still care for one another, they "did not have the same feelings for each other as they did when they first started dating."
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Efron is currently filming the upcoming "Baywatch" reboot in which he co-stars with Dwayne Johnson and Alexandra Daddario. Hudgens is focusing on Broadway, having received the lead role in "Gigi" in 2015.
