Boston Celtics will miss their center Al Horford for several games due to concussion. He got hit in his head during practice on Monday and the doctors will have to evaluate him.
Horford already missed the game on Wednesday, Nov. 2 when the Celtics defeated Chicago Bulls 107-100. He is expected to miss two more games according to CBS Sports.
Horford was head in the head during Monday practice, but he did not show concussion symptoms. The symptoms appeared on the next day, so he was put into the concussion protocol right away and missed the Wednesday game.
"He was cleared to practice and then, when he got into a few drills,” Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said as quoted by ESPN. “Then he started feeling some nausea. And so that's why he ultimately was stopped and removed and went home."
Fortunately, the Celtics has enough depth in their roster so they could win against Chicago Bulls that defeated them a week before. But Horford is not clear to return to court in a game against Cleveland Cavaliers this Thursday, Nov. 3.
The Celtics signed Horford on July 8 in a 4-year and $113 million contract after he became free agent. Initially Horford looked forward to -sign with his previous team, Atlanta Hawks. But the Hawks prioritized to sign Dwight Howard over him, making Horford seek for a new team and landed in Boston.
The 30-year old center is the son of Tito Horford, the first Dominican player who played in the NBA. During his college year, he helped University of Florida Gators to win back-to-back NCAA championship in 2006 and 2007.
He was picked as the third overall by Atlanta Hawks in 2007 NBA Draft and in his first year in Atlanta, Horford became the only player who unanimously selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In his first season with the Hawks he only missed one regular season game and averaged 10.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists in 31.4 minutes.
