Showtime on Friday has released the official teaser trailer of its award-winning spy drama, "Homeland." The series, which stars Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, will move forward to a New York setting on its upcoming installment.

The 2-minute trailer offered fans a glimpse into Homeland's more politically-centered tone in Season 6. As previously revealed by the show's producers, the new installment will polarize on the events following the US presidential election. The trailer also gave a first look preview at "House of Cards" actress Elizabeth Marvel as the female-president elect.

On Carrie Matheson's storyline, it is palpable that the ex-CIA officer is still at odds with Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham). A couple of scenes from the footage hints that the duo are conflicted about a heavy storyline. There are even a couple of hard-hitting lines thrown by Carrie and Dar Adal at each other.

"I don't think you understand how vulnerable you are," a furious Adal said.

"I don't think you do!" Carrie replied.

As to what caused their ongoing rift is unknown, but it is possible that it has something to do with Carrie's involvement with the Muslim community. "Homeland" is the kind of show that is bold in tackling relevant issues like race and religion. A couple of scenes from the trailer, including the arrest of two black women, may have suggested that.

The trailer looks compelling overall. But what's missing from all the action is Rupert Friend's character - Agent Peter Quinn. Producers have already confirmed his presence in "Homeland" Season 6, but he is a total no-show in the clip. Perhaps the producers are just taking advantage of the mystery behind Quinn's status to pique the fans' interest even more.

"Homeland" Season 6 premieres on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 9PM on Showtime.
