Games like "Fallout 4" have their lasting appeal not just because of the gameplay and story, but also because of their capability to be modded. While the modding community usually makes mods primarily for the PC since it's easy(ier) and  technical possible to do so, developer Bethesda has actually allowed modding to happen in the PlayStation version of "Fallout 4."

While it usually takes Sony to allow third party modifications on their console games especially those for the PS4, the company finally allowed the support of mods for the PS4 version of "Fallout 4" when the next update arrives.

Whereas "Fallout 4" already brought out the patch 1.8 for the PC platform, Bethesda will be getting the patch primed and ready for the recent generation consoles, Xbox One and PS4, sometime this month. Now the patch has already opened the way for PS4's "Fallout 4" to finally accept the mods, but it will take some time before the studio actually polishes it and begin making it official. Nothing much has been said about allowing mods on the Xbox One platform.

Being a patch, it will, of course, address and fix some issues that have been festering in the game quite some time. With it, "Fallout 4" will hopefully not experience audio issues, crash incidents when exiting to the Main Menu, and several in-game bugs. For the PC version, it will improve performance when using mods such as crashing with them, missing displays, and other issues related to them.

Bethesda did also announce that the creation kit for "Fallout 4" has also been updated recently for the PS4 console system to support mods. Players would just need to go to the Bethesda.net Launcher and download the necessary files through there. Just a heads up, though, the PlayStation 4 system will only detect the mods as plugins, making use of the resources limited to the game files only.

This means that PS4 owners would not be able to get mods that have external assets like visual overhauls for the environment, characters, and weapons, additional quests, NPCs and creatures, and third party gameplay tweaks. The mods available to the console can only enhance the values of items like weapons, armor, and the rest of game's data as long as they are within the confines of the PS4 version of "Fallout 4".
