Android developers cite a 0.3 percent adoption on 7.0 Nougat OS from all active devices

After being released for more than two months, the latest Android firmware update, 7.0 Nougat, revealed Nougat users barely making 1 percent of the Android overall numbers.

According to TechSpot, data collected during the seven-day period ending Nov. 7 translates to just 0.3 percent of Android devices installed in Android 7.0 Nougat firmware. The latest Android update is quite in contrast to its mobile OS competition, iOS 10, which is now installed to more than 50 percent of devices.

Reports point out to not all Android firmware are from different OEM makers are the same as the cause for the slow adoption. In Nougat's initial release, the Android OS can be installed to any Nexus or Google-made device without any modifications. However, the same cannot be said for OEM manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Motorola and the rest.

Following the studies reported, Android 6.0 Marshmallow support shows a 24 percent, which have increased from 18.7 percent in September. Android 5.0 Lollipop continues to be present on most Android smartphones with 34.1 percent of overall share, which plummeted from 35 percent in September.

Android KitKat follows behind and is down from 27.7 percent in September, now present on 25.2 percent active Android smartphones, as per the data reported by NDTV.

The latest distribution chart adds that Android versions Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean are currently running on 1.3 percent, 1.3 percent, and 13.7 percent of overall active Android devices respectively, compared to 1.5 percent, 1.4 percent, and 15.6 percent in September.

The latest version of Google's popular mobile operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat, is showed up on the developer's site, which reflects devices running the latest Google Play Store app, which is compatible with Android 2.2 and higher. Each snapshot of data represents all the devices that visited the Google Play Store in the prior 7 days.

Android 7.0 Nougat brings about features such as split-screen multitasking, and improved notifications. The latest OS also has a new notifications panel that offers quick access to standard features like WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. Direct Reply feature was also incorporated on the OS, which allows users to reply directly from within the notification panel.
