San Antonio Spurs won their game against Houston Rockets on Sunday. Two days earlier, head coach Gregg Popovich ranted over president elect Donald Trump have made the news.
Popovich called the election of Trump, who won the presidential election by U.S. citizen is disgusting as reported by Fortune. He said on Friday Nov. 11 before the game against Detrit Pistons, that he couldn’t imagine being an African-Amerian and other minorities after Trump elected president.
“Not basically because the Republicans won or anything,”he said and continue with the media portrayal of Trump. “But the disgusting tenure and tone and all the comments that have been xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic.”
It might be possible that his rant was caused by his frustration over the Spurs two straight home game loss against LA Clippers and Houston Rockets. However, in the Friday game, the Spurs won the game 96-86, and afterward the news about his diatribe broke out.
Popovich’s political rant did not affect the team on Saturday, as San Antonio Spurs defeated Houston Rockets 106-100 on the next day at Toyota Center. The Spurs played in full team for the first time this season according to ESPN. Tony Parker returned to the lineup after his knee problem sidelined him for three games.
Parker did what he usually did for Spurs, organizing the game. Coach Popovich was glad he was back in court and immediately forgot about his yesterday’s rant.
Five of the players scored double digit points, led by Kawhi Leonard with 20 points, followed by LaMarcus Aldridge and Parker with 16 points each. Pau Gasol tallied 15 points and Manu Ginobili with 12 points. Aldridge also showed his rim supremacy with 10 rebounds.
In the game against the Rockets, The team showed their amazing teamwork and exhibited the return of their selfless culture. Leonard in the post game interview said that overall the team worked pretty good in the game against the Rockets. However he admittted there are some issues in the game which required the team to fix, particularly the team’s consistency.
