Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd recently disclosed that four-year veteran John Henson will remain as the team's starting center until the team feels the need to change it again.
The center spot has been considered as the weak link in Milwaukee's starting five for several years now. With young stars Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker, Rashad Vaughn, and Khris Middleton all wingmen and backcourt players, the Bucks are thin up front.
Milwaukee acquired Greg Monroe in the summer of 2015 to become their starter last season before Kidd replaced him with Miles Plumlee to begin the current one due to chemistry issues.
However, in their ninth game this season, a 106-96 win over the Memphis Grizzlies at the BMO Harris Bradley Center last Saturday, Kidd decided to put Henson in the starting lineup and it apparently worked wonders for the squad. According to ESPN, Kidd will keep him in the starting five moving forward.
"It's going to change again at some point," said Kidd, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "But I think we're comfortable. John has come with some energy. He's doing a really good job for us right now."
Henson only had eight points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one block in 18 minutes against the Grizzlies, but the energy he brought to the team from the tipoff was refreshing.
With Henson starting, Plumlee and Monroe shared substitute center minutes during the game with the former particularly struggling because of the change. Plumlee only played nine minutes against Memphis, registering one point, one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Latest trade rumors are out that of the three centers, Monroe is the most likely to get shipped in or before the February trade deadline, which would make Plumlee the primary backup center.
Henson is in the first year of his four-year, $45 million deal with the Bucks signed in October of last year.
The former North Carolina standout was drafted 14th overall by the Bucks in the 2012 NBA Draft. He has not played that many minutes in his career so far but it could change in his ongoing fifth season in the league and with the club.
Henson averaged 7.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in only 16.8 minutes per game last season.
