"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star Domhnall Gleeson is joining the voice cast of Sony's live-animated hybrid "Peter Rabbit." "Friends with Benefits" director Will Gluck is set to direct.
According to Variety, Gleeson has been set to voice the menacing farmer Mr. McGregor in the classic story by Beatrix Potter in "Peter Rabbit." The Irish actor joins "The Three Musketeers" actor James Corden, "Spy" actress Rose Byrne, "Youngers" actress Daisy Ridley, and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." Elizabeth Debicki. Corden will voice Peter Rabbit while Byrne will voice the female lead Bea.
The script of "Peter Rabbit" will be written by "The Great Zucchini" writer Rob Lieber. It will also be revised by Gluck. The adaptation of the movie will be made at the Sydney-based animation and visual effects production studio Animal Logic behind the blockbuster "The Lego Movie," Deadline reported.
Gluck and "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" producer Zareh Nalbandian are both attached to produce "Peter Rabbit." "The Beautiful Game" executive producer Jason Lust, "Babe in the Woods" producer Doug Belgrad, and Jodi Hildebrand of Olive Bridge are on board to executive produce.
Gluck is a producer and writer. He is best known for his romance comedy films "Friends with Benefits" in 2011 and "Easy A" in 2010. He also famous for his 2009 comedy film "Fired up." He also played a role in Andrew Fleming's romance comedy film "Barefoot" as a male attendant William Gluck.
Gleeson recently starred in Alex Garland's psychological thriller film "Ex Machina," Alejandro G. Iñárritu biographical western drama film "The Revenant," and John Crowley's romantic drama film "Brooklyn." He is also playing the lead in Simon Curtis' untitled A.A. Milne drama and will be returning in "Star Wars: Episode VIII." He is represented by Paradigm.
"Peter Rabbit" will start filming at Animal Logic in January. It is expected to hit theaters worldwide in April 2018.
