WARNING, spoilers incoming!
Now that the dead man under the sheet has been revealed, more mysteries are stirring up the series' thrilling plot, and the most important among all is "Who Killed Wes?". Yes, the dead person from the house fire is Keating Five's "puppy" - Wes Gibbons (Alfred Enoch).
Despite the indications of him being alive from the previous episodes, Wes definitely got hooked on the death row. Apparently, the scenes showing him at the police station discussing the immunity deal took place hours before the house fire. How he landed in that situation continues to be a mystery for the viewers of the show.
Pete Nowalk, the show runner of the intense and mind-boggling series "How To Get Away With Murder", told Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview that it was, indeed, a horrible decision to make [to kill Wes]. Considering Wes as the heart of the show, Nowalk said that he wanted to change the DNA of the series, so he opted to go with his gut knowing that it will make a big impact to the show and to the characters.
"Alfie is a dream come true", says Nowalk, commending Enoch about how generous of a person and an actor he is. After being told of the news that his character was to be killed, the English actor told Nowalk that it was going to be great for the story. The film creator expresses that he is more emotionally invested in this than anything.
Enoch will still be appearing in the last six episodes of Season 3, when they come back during Fall. He will be seen periodically in flashbacks, upon solving the big mystery of who killed him, as it came as another surprise that Wes died before the house fire. "Everyone's a fair suspect", says Nowalk, but declares he is still trying to figure out everything, as they still have four episodes left to write.
When asked about how he felt when the news came upon him, Alfred Enoch told E! News that it is sad knowing that he would not be around getting to work with everyone as it has been for the last three years, but he believes it serves the story. Moreover, Enoch said he was touched with the reactions of his co-stars, realizing the fact that it is going to be a big change for all of them, especially with the group dynamic. He adds, "I hope people are pissed by it [Wes' passing]!" acclaiming the viewers' investment in the show.
Fans have broken the internet expressing their grief and mixed feelings about the winter finale of the show.
