Bangtan Boys truly loved EXO. In the recent "Melon Music Awards," the group showed their support to EXO through a standing ovation.
South Korean boy band EXO got their "Artist of the Year" award in this year's "Melon Music Awards." To show their love and support, a standing ovation by the Bangtan Boys or simply known as BTS was performed throughout EXO's speech, Allkpop reported.
EXO received five awards: "Artist of the Year" award, "Best Dancer" award, the "Kakao Hot Star" award, the "Top 10" award, and the "Netizen's Choice" award. BTS was the group's biggest rival for the dance award, however, EXO had music downloads and album sales.
In a report by Yonhap News, apart from the two renowned boy bands, girl group TWICE by JYP Entertainment also won an award. The group was hailed as "Best Song of the Year" with their mega-hit dance-pop track "Cheer Up."
"A year ago, we'd never imagined that we'd be able to win such a big award. We will do all we can to prove that we are deserving of such an honor."
For the "Rookie" award this year, YG Entertainment BLACKPINK took home the award. Beating its biggest rival from YMC Entertainment, I.O.I. Since their debut on Aug. 8, BLACKPINK became popular with its two EPs.
This year's "Top 10" award, are EXO, BTS, BewhY, Zico, TWICE, Akdong Musician, GFriend, Red Velvet, MAMAMOO, and Taeyeon. The award is partly based on the voter's choice.
The "OST" award was given to singer Yoon Mi-rae thanks to the immense popularity of the Song-Song couple in "Descendants of the Sun." The 31-year old actor Song Joong Ki and the 34-year old actress Song Hye Kyo stars in the popular drama.
The "Melon Music Awards" is a major music award held annually in South Korea. The award is organized by LOEN Entertainment through its online music store, Melon and is known for calculating digital sales and online votes to judge winners.
