One of Westworld's major players is now confirmed to be part of the show's upcoming second season. Ed Harris, who plays the villainous character of the Man in Black, will be back to reprise the role.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4, Harris has shared a part of his conversations with "Westworld" co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The actor's comments assured fans that his complex and mysterious character will be continuing his quest to unlock the maze on Westworld Season 2.
"I was just talking to Jonah Nolan last night, who's a creator of this thing with his wife Lisa Joy, and yeah, they're doing another season," he said.
"They're going to do 10 more episodes, and I will be involved."
The news comes after HBO has renewed "Westworld" for a second season following a very impressive first run of episodes. The show's ratings bested the first season of "Game of Thrones," as it currently averages a total of 11.7 million viewers across the network's platforms each week. The sophomore season is being eyed for a 2018 release.
Meanwhile, Harris' confirmed participation with Westworld until 2018 is definitely a big news to fans. Not only that the Man in Black is one of the most mysterious in the bunch, there are also multiple speculations about him across the web. One of the most popular theories posits that the Man in Black and William are the same guy - but living on two different timelines.
The evidences that lead to this theory are debatable, as they highlight the Man in Black's very close familiarity with Dolores and Teddy in early episodes. The history among these characters are yet to be known, but it is likely that the Man in Black has already encountered them multiple times on different eras.
As a regular guest in the park, the Man in Black's obsession to unlock the maze is also one of the reasons why his storyline is very intriguing. He has killed many hosts for this mission left and right, but it seems that his journey for the truth is going nowhere. With only two episodes left unaired, fans are hoping that this mystery gets resolved sooner rather than later. If the writers opt to drag this one until Season 2, it will be a huge disappointment.
"Westworld" airs every Sunday at 9PM on HBO.
