A lot of rumors were circulating prior to BlizzCon 2016 and one of the most popular ones was the probability that Blizzard was going to announce the 4th installment of the Diablo franchise.
"Diablo 3" was released in 2012 and despite all of the hype built around it, the game had a lot of problems from launch. This caused a lot of the player base to leave the game though Blizzard has made good by releasing expansions and patching the problematic aspects of the game away. "Diablo 3" has since returned to form with great ports and the promise of new content such as the necromancer class. However, what does this mean for "Diablo 4"?
It turned out the rumors for "Diablo 4" were actually future updates of "Diablo 3". However, a website has reported that "Diablo 4" is likely in the works but because of Blizzard's tendency to stick to their games for over ten years, it's unlikely that we'll see any trace of the game until it's in the alpha stages. A lot of former Diablo developers and even isometric Role Playing Game (RPG) veterans were rumoured to be hired by Blizzard, though several of them denied it.
One of the reasons why the Diablo 4 rumor mill started was because of Ex-Diablo lead David Brevik being hired as a consultant for the Diablo franchise. Just a few months prior to his announcement, he denied having anything to do with the latest game. Fans were also trying to find hidden messages during BlizzCon as Blizzard had the propensity of hiding messages within their material as seen with games such as "Overwatch".
As fans eagerly wait, "Diablo 3" is doing well in terms of new content with new quests being planned as an ode to the original Diablo game. Even the music and the art style is said to be inspired from the original game as it reaches its 20th anniversary. The season system will also be applied to the console systems soon and interface changes are also being done for player convenience.
