It's a sad day for YG artists fans after the label announced on Friday the disbandment of popular girl group 2NE1 and the departure of Nam Tae Hyun from WINNER allegedly due to mental health issues.
YG Entertainment, in an official statement, said their contract with 2NE1 ended last May. The label revealed both parties went through a lot of discussions before they have decided for the disbandment of the girl group, Allkpop reported.
"For the past 7 years, 2NE1 was a representative group of YG. We, too, cannot express how upset and disappointed we are. However, we judge that it'll be difficult to continue promoting," YG Entertainment said.
The statement continued, "We decided that instead of looking forward to 2NE1's unpredictable promotions, we should rather focus on the solo promotions of the members.
Further reports revealed YG Entertainment has resigned 2NE1's Dara and CL, while the label did not renew Park Bom's contract. On the same day of 2NE1's disbandment, Park Bom took to her SNS accounts to share a video of herself to update her fans of what she's up to, Soompi cited.
The former 2NE1 member said she was practicing a song before recording a video dedicated to her fans. Park Bom added it's a song she will be singing for the first time.
Meanwhile, another YG artist is bidding his goodbye from his group, WINNER. YG Entertainment confirmed Nam Tae Hyun will depart from the boy group after his contract ended on Nov. 18.
The label said the idol has been suffering from mental issues before he joined WINNER. "We believe that the pressure on Nam Tae Hyun in causing issues to the group can no longer be halting the promotion of WINNER who's only a group of 2 years," YG announced.
The agency clarified their will be no new addition to WINNER to replace Nam Tae Hyun, adding that they will continue their promotional activities as a 4-member group.
