EXO's Chanyeol turned 25 last Nov. 27, and just like what other fandoms would do for their idols, Chanyeol's fans shed some cash to surprise the EXO member with the sweetest gift one can have.
A report of Allkpop claimed Chanyeol's Chinese fandom called Chanyeol Bar surprised the EXO member with a birthday ad on Nasdaq Tower Screen located in Times Square, New York.
The birthday greetings stated, "Happy 25th Birthday Park Chan Yeol" alongside a photo of the EXO member. Reports suggested the birthday ad was displayed from Nov. 7 to 15, adding that the monthly advertising fee on the tower costs around 3 billion won.
The sweet gesture of Chanyeol Bar received mixed response from the netizens. Some of them commended the fandom for being thoughtful of their idol, while others are arguing the gift was too costly.
There were also who said Chanyeol Bar should have donated the money to a charity, instead of wasting it for a birthday ad. "It's a waste but nobody can deny that this looks really cool," a netizen wrote.
Other fans countered the birthday ad is just one of the many ways to show their support to their idol, stating that it does not matter how much it will cost them. "Fans wanted to show their love and support in many ways. That was one of their projects," a commenter said.
Chanyeol was the last member of EXO to be introduced to the public in 2012. A couple of months after all the members were revealed, the boy group made their official debut in April.
Aside from working with EXO, Chanyeol has done collaborations with local and foreign artists. Just recently, the EXO member was featured in Far East Movement's "Freal Luv," Billboard reported.
Aside from Chanyeol, the song also featured R&B singer Tinashe and DJ Marshmello. Far East Movement's "Freal Luv" is under the group's newest album called "Identity."
