J.R. Smith made a headline as he came to the bench to hug Jason Terry, leaving the rim open for Tony Snell to dunk. Coach Lue has sit with him to talk about the moment. Smith was very embarrassed with the incident.
The incident occured with 3:03 remaining in the second quarter, as reported by USA Today. The play was resumed after a timeout, and suddenly Bucks player Matthew Dellavedova passed the ball to the wide open Tony Sell who immediately dunked the ball.
It turned out Smith left his post to say hello to Jason Terry and giving him a hug near the Bucks’ bench. In the game held at the BMO Harris Bradley Center The Bucks defeated Cleveland Cavaliers 118-101.
After the game, Cavaliers head coach Tyronne Lue sit and talk to Smith the next morning, to ensure there was nothing intentional with that incident according to ESPN. He needs to clarify that Smith had no negative motive to expose his team’s defense. Smith was so embarrassed with the incident and he and the team moved on toward the next game.
“We had a discussion about it, he felt embarrassed about it,” Lue said. “It was an embarrassing play. We talked about it. We're moving on."
Smith has experienced a bad game lately. He only made 10.3 percent accuracy from the field with 3-for-29 in the last three games. He is the main shooting guard for the Cavaliers and his lack of focus of the game have given the team their first loss after four winning streaks.
Coach Lue called the incident was caused by Smith's mental lapse due to his lack of focus to the game. Afterward, Smith talked to the reporter after the conversation, covering his face with a ski mask and hood.
