"21 Jump Street," the hit Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum-starred cop comedy, has found a new writer and director for its upcoming female-led spinoff.

21 Jump Street news & update: Female-led spinoff gets new writer

In a report from Deadline, it was announced that the movie in development has snagged Rodney Rothman (Grudge Match) to write the script and potentially helm the project. Rothman, who was also the scribe of the film's sequel "22 Jump Street," is also involved on the "Men In Black" meets "Jump Street" spinoff. The site reports that he just turned in the latest draft for that.

As for the female-led spinoff's plot, details are scarce at this point. According to Collider, "the idea for this spinoff is to focus on two female cops instead of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's characters from the first two films."

There's also no development yet on production and casting.

21 Jump Street news & update: Men In Black crossover not happening?

On the side of the "Men In Black" and "Jump Street" crossover, star Jonah Hill addressed the project's possibility back in August. However, the actor hints that it's not likely to happen.

"They're trying to make all the deals," Hill told IGN.

"But it's kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff."

Hill's co-star Channing Tatum has not made any comment about the matter.
