Aside from "The Magicians", Syfy has also announced the renewal of its zombie apocalypse series "Z Nation" for a fourth season days before its season 3 finale. The science fiction cable channel has ordered a 13-episode fourth season scheduled for airing in 2017.
According to report from The Hollywood Reporter, Syfy's renewal of "Z Nation" is not surprising. The series has been a steady performer for the NBC Universal owned channel which averaged 1.2 million viewers and 500,000 in the advertiser coveted 18-49 demographic.
Starring Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls and Keith Allan, "Z Nation" has consistently ranked among the top 10 most watched scripted series among cable networks since its inception in 2014. It also co-stars Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang and Emilio Rivera.
The series follows a team of ordinary folks during their epic struggle to save humanity following the worldwide zombie apocalypse. Initially, their mission was to bring a certain Murphy, the only known survivor of the zombie plague, to a viral lab in order to learn how to get rid of the horrible virus.
However, the mission took an unexpected turn with the team now split in a race against Murphy, all to save the future of mankind. Murphy went for the worse as he wanted to create a race of human-zombie "blends", while the gang, led by Lieutenant Warren are determined to stop him at all costs.
On its first season, the series received mixed reviews from various television critics. But was commonly said about the show is its ability to deliver the needed scare without taking itself seriously. In fact, Forbes magazine found the show to have a high entertainment value.
The series is under the supervision of Karl Schaefer who serves as executive producer and series showrunner. According to Deadline, "Z Nation" is produced by The Asylum and distributed internationally by Dynamic Television.
