The film adaptation of Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed" is getting close and they're not helping us get any calmer with all these exciting teases. Just recently Fox has released a new video focused on the film's version of the Animus, the fictional machine that allows the user to recollect events of his/her past.
According to Gamespot, the video is called the "The Science of the Animus," where it shows actors Michael Fassbender ("X-Men: Apocalypse") and Marion Cotillard ("Inception") explaining how the machine works and expressed how impressed they were with it. "It's a very cool experience; it's just a fantastic concept," stated Fassbender. Here's the video:
The film adaptation shows a very different kind of Animus machine compared to the ones we're used to seeing in the video game series, where it ranges from a platform for a person to lay in to a chair. In the film, their version is something akin to a claw that latches on to a spine and waist to allow mobility as the user experiences the events from before. However, Fassbender also revealed that the Animus versions from the game might make an appearance in the "Assassin's Creed" film.
The Animus is an advanced technology from the videogame lore where it allows a person in the present day to access the memories of their ancestors and relive it through an advanced virtual reality sort of experience. In the games, a good example of that happening was the character Desmond Miles who accessed the memories of Altair, Ezio Auditore, and Connor Kenway. In the movie, Michael Fassbender plays present-day character Callum Lynch who uses the Animus to tap into the memories of his 15th century Spanish ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, also played by the same actor.
Marion Cotillard will be playing the role of Sophia Rikkin, a scientist leading scientist of the Animus project at Abstergo Foundation and daughter of Alan Rikkin (Jeremy Irons), the visionary CEO of Abstergo Industries.
Earlier news also brought out another female lead in the film named Maria, played by "The Lobster" actress Ariane Labed. Maria and Aguilar have somewhat of a brother/sister relationship with one another and make awesome partners-in-crime.
Assassin's Creed is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2016 in France and in the United States.
