Before their recent sexual assault controversy with B1A4 could even die down, "SNL Korea" is once again drawing flak from the netizens for allegedly making fun of an actress' illness on its Dec. 3 episode.
According to Allkpop, "SNL Korea" comedian Jung Yi Rang portrayed as Um Aing Ran for a segment of the show. However, viewers were shocked when the comedian dropped some inappropriate words during the singing competition.
"Whenever the topic of chests comes up, I feel ashamed. I don't have a chest to hold," Jung said imitating Um. The statement was even supported by her co-comedian Ahn Young Mi who said, "Not having a chest. I can personally relate to that."
Um is a Korean actress from the 1960s, who was diagnosed with breast cancer this year. In February, the actress has undergone a surgery where her breasts were removed to stop the cancer cells from spreading.
After the inappropriate acts of Jung on "SNL Korea," a source affiliated with the comedian's agency said Jung was unaware of Um's condition; hence, she reportedly sent an apology to Um after the broadcast, Soompi cited
"Jung Yi Rang did not know that Um Aing Ran went through surgery due to breast cancer. Her segment unintentionally became a controversy. She is sorry to have caused trouble. Jung Yi Rang has sent an apology to Um Aing Ran," the source revealed.
On the other hand, "SNL Korea" also defended Jung and supported the statement of her agency. "Jung Yi Rang's character is a combination of Um Aing Ran and Kim Young Ran, who created the anti-corruption act commonly known as the "Kim Young Ran law," the program said.
It continued, "Jung Yi Rang truly did not know Um Aing Ran's personal situation and said an ad-lib to fit the content of the broadcast segment, which caused a misunderstanding."
