Capcom has gotten back "Marvel vs. Capcom" back into the fold from the library of forgotten IPs. It may be possible that the studio might be bringing back old games in their new forms in the future.
Recent reports have spoken about the next "Marvel vs. Capcom" game entitled "Infinite" back then when it was announced during the PlayStation Experience 2016 (PSX 2016). The game took inspiration from a predecessor "Marvel Super Heroes," another of Capcom's earlier fighting games, where they utilized the "Infinity Gems" to boost their power during the fight.
According to reports from Attack of the Fanboy, during a press release, Capcom has announced that the "Marvel vs. Capcom" series has shipped over 7 million copies around the world. Along with that announcement, the studio behind all the great Capcom games hinted that they might bring back old IPs from their libraries.
Here's what the announcement said: "In addition to regular major title releases each fiscal year, Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP. Beginning with 'MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE,' a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich content"
Besides "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" heading to stores both retail and digital, "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" is slated for release next year and numerous updates have been applied for Capcom's well-known fighting franchise "Street Fighter V." While those have been given a lot of attention for quite some time lately, what about the other Capcom classics?
The "Mega Man" franchise hasn't been active for a while now, with the exception of the titular hero showing up in "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" as part of Capcom's side of heroes. Fans have been longing for another title in the series, and, no, "Mighty No. 9" didn't meet the fans' expectations.
Another game that should be given attention to is "Dino Crisis," the "Resident Evil" with dinosaurs. It's actually better than it sounds, with puzzles and the intense thrills that the previous games gave (with the exception of "Dino Crisis 3"). With "Resident Evil 7" having VR capabilities, it shouldn't be a surprise if Capcom decided to do the same thing as well for "Dino Crisis" if they decide to revive the franchise. It will be seeing a T-Rex chasing the player with the VR on.
Lastly, fans still need to see another "Devil May Cry" installment. As much as Ninja Theory tried their best in "rebooting" the franchise with "DmC: Devil may Cry," it hadn't sat well with fans. In order to try redirecting the hate fans gave to DmC, Capcom should come up with a possible revival of the series much like what they did for "Resident Evil" after the disappointing sixth installment.
