"Reign," the period drama starring Adelaide Kane, is officially cancelled. The CW has announced that the show is ending after its upcoming fourth season.
According to Variety, the cancellation of "Reign" no longer comes a surprise. Insiders told the publication that prior to the announcement, the producers of the series and the network have already discussed the show's endgame on its upcoming fourth season.
Currently, "Reign" Season 4 is still on production - which means that the writers can use the remaining time to plot the final episode as the series finale.
The network still has yet to release an official synopsis for the final season of "Reign." So far, no new developments have emerged about the series after it aired its third season finale on June.
It was announced, however, that new guest stars will be on board.
The roster of new characters on "Reign" Season 4 include Leesa, a yet to be cast character described as Catherine's "plain Jane" daughter. Leesa craves for her mother's affections, as she is the least favorite child of Catherine.
Leesa will be joined by two of Mary's potential new love interest: Lord Darnley and Bothwell.
Set to be played by actor Will Kemp, Lord Danley is a character based on the real-life English nobleman who is set to become Mary's second husband. Danley is described as breezily confident, charming and warm. Bothwell, on the other hand, will be played by Adam Croasdell (EastEnders). The character, described as a warm hearted bad boy, is set to be Mary's third husband.
"Reign" hails from creator and executive producer Laurie McCarthy. It also stars Rachel Skarsten, Anna Popplewell, Megan Follows, Torrance Coombs, Ben Geurens, Craig Parker, Celina Sinden, Charlie Carrick, Rose Williams and Jonathan Keltz.
The 16-episode fourth and final season of "Reign" premieres on Friday, Feb. 10 at 9PM on the CW.
