Netizens were not pleased upon hearing Lee Hwi Jae's jokes about some actors at the "2016 SBS Drama Awards" on Dec. 31.
The comedian hosted the awarding ceremony with Minah and Jang Geun Suk, who tried to save the awkward moment when Lee started to make fun of Sung's outfit at the "2016 SBS Drama Awards."
According to Soompi, Lee said he does not know what to call Sung because of his attire. "I can't tell if you're a PD or an actor. You're an actor, right?" Lee said onstage, while Sung was clearly not amused of the joke about him.
Despite the cold audience, Lee continued making fun of Sung and asked the actor if he just came from a filming or went straight to the awarding ceremony from home.
The comedian did not stop even after Sung approached the stage to receive an award. Allkpop reported the actor was awarded with Special Actor in a fantasy drama for his role on "The Legend of the Blue Sea."
On the other hand, Girl's Day's Minah countered the comedian and said Sung was looking good in his outfit. However, Lee went on with his offensive remarks towards the actor.
Not only that, Lee also poked fun at IU and Jo Jung Suk, who shared the screen on "Scarlet Heart: Goryeo." The comedian reportedly teased the two even though he knows Jo has a girlfriend.
After drawing backlash for his behavior at the "2016 SBS Drama Awards," Lee released a statement to apologize for offending his co-actors during the event. Lee admitted it was his fault, stating that he has no excuse for his misbehavior.
Lee revealed he has already apologized to Sung for roasting him at the awarding ceremony. The comedian also apologized to IU, Jo and the audience for causing them discomfort.
"I sincerely apologize. I apologize for everything that happened as a result of my own ambition [to do better]. In the future, I promise to be careful and work harder toward solid hosting. Once again, I apologize," Lee said.
