Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo got the most-coveted Grand Excellence Award during the recently-concluded 2016 KBS Drama Awards for their exceptional performance in "Descendants of the Sun" drama series. Because of its resolute success, the "Running Man" actor turned emotional as he expressed gratitude for all the people behind "DOTS."
"To know that we're loved not only in Korea, but in other Asian countries as well brings me joy and a huge sense of honor, so I can't say that I'm disappointed with anything," Song Joong Ki told Viu when asked if he had regrets being part of the "Descendants of the Sun" family. The leading man Song Hye Kyo added that winning the Best Couple Award is proof that they effectively portrayed their roles.
2016 has been a good year for both Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo after reaping more than a few accolades from some of the most prestigious award-giving bodies in South Korea. In fact, the "Descendants of the Sun" actor also bagged the PaekSang Arts Award for Most Popular Male in Television, PaekSang Arts Award Grand Prize in Television and Asia Best Couple alongside the "Full House" actress.
Meanwhile, another color has been added to the already-glitzy banners of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo after they were named as the most popular on-screen couple in South Korea. Yonhap News Agency shared the "Descendants of the Sun" couple got a total of 16.5 % votes from the 2,000 respondents aged 20 and above. The survey was conducted by the local polling agency Panel Marketing Interactive (PMI).
Following Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo's spot are "The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop" star Lee Se-young and Hyun Woo, who garnered 11.5% of total votes. Placing third on the list Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-Jung of the "Love in the Moonlight" series with 8.5%.
