"The Flash" Season 3 brings back the villain Zoom. This time he returns as Black Flash, following the events in the Season 2 finale.
Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed Black Flash's appearance during the Television Critics Association Press tour on Sunday. He said that the villain does not only appear in "The Flash" Season 3, but also in multiple DC shows in The CW. However, Kreisberg did not name the respective series that Black Flash would appear.
Speaking about the villain's appearance, Kreisberg teased that Black Flash presents a challenge for Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and anyone he encounters. After all, he is no longer just the speedster Hunter Zolomon aka Zoom. Black Flash is now stronger and scarier.
"He's a classic character and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return. There's something so scary about him, even scarier than when he was just a man, because now he is the Grim Reaper, he is like the Devil," Kreisberg said as quoted by Entertainment Weekly.
Fans have since speculated that Black Flash would be in "The Flash" Season 3, following the events in the Season 2 finale. To recap, the season ended with a hint to the Grim Reaper's appearance. During Barry and Zoom's fight, the Time Wraiths appeared and transformed Zoom into Black Flash, before they took him to the Speed Force.
Likewise, fans had initially mistaken Todd Lasance for the Black Flash based on some leaked set photos for "The Flash" Season 3. Images shared by What's Filming Canada showed "The Vampire Diaries" actor dressed as a black speedster. It turned out though that Lasance played the villain The Rival.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear if "The Flash" Season 3 will follow Black Flash's storyline in the comic books. In the DC comics, Black Flash represents Death. He brings speedsters back to the Speed Force after they die.
Likewise, it is uncertain if Teddy Sears (Zoom) will portray Black Flash in "The Flash" Season 3. Kreisberg is unsure whether the actor can devote time to the series, since he is reportedly busy with "24: Legacy."
