"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" star Felicity Jones is set to host the first episode of 2017 on Jan. 14 at the NBC's long-running sketch show "Saturday Night Live" Season 42. She will usher in the new year as a host.
According to TV Line, Jones will preside over "Saturday Night Live" when Season 42 resumes on Jan. 14, which is the first episode of the year. She will be joining country singer Sturgill Simpson, who will appear as the musical guest.
"Saturday Night Live" broke Jones' casting news last month, USA Today reported. The Jan. 14 show will serve as the SNL hosting debut for her, who stole the box office with her turn as Rebel Alliance fighter Jyn Erso in the standalone "Star Wars" film, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
The girl-power streak continues with Jones' hosting the "Saturday Night Live" Season 42. To recall, "Suicide Squad" star Margot Robbie hosted the premiere with breakout stars Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Vanessa Bayer leading the pack.
Meanwhile, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is taking the U.S. box office by storm, taking an estimated $71 million. That puts it on track for an opening weekend take of $150 million, making it one of the biggest movie openings in Hollywood history.
Jones was also nominated for an Oscar back in 2015 for her work in "The Theory of Everything," starring Eddie Redmayne. Additionally, she starred in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and "Inferno" alongside Tom Hanks.
On the other hand, Simpson has released three studio albums. The first album was released independently, while the third album titled "A Sailor's Guide To Earth" is released this year and is his first major record label release with Atlantic Records. His second album named "Metamodern Sounds In Country Music" was released in 2014 and earned him a Grammy nomination.
"Saturday Night Live" Season 42 will be aired in its usual time slot of 11:30 p.m. ET.
