Netflix recently premiered the entire second season of "Voltron: Legendary Defender." As the animated series grows in popularity, the minds behind the series reveal how Netflix because the perfect platform for the animated reboot.

Hands Off Approach

Rebooting one of the most popular animated series in the 80s is a tough task but the minds behind "Voltron: Legendary Defender" have taken the challenge and came up with very impressive material. According to Polygon, showrunners Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos credits the animated series' platform on Netflix for their success.

The showrunners revealed that showing the series on Netflix allows them to create a reboot that doesn't just feature the robot lions forming Voltron - the platform also allows them to push for subject matters that cannot be show on regular television network. They also revealed that Netflix is "relatively hands off" in developing the series which means they are given more leeway on how to develop the story.

Trusting Montgomery and Dos Santos to reboot a highly popular cartoon series is actually a good decision for Netflix. After all, they are also the showrunners of an amazing animated series in Nickelodeon featuring extensive character development and impressive fight sequences: "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

Season 2 Review (Warning: Minor Spoilers)

The second season for "Voltron: Legendary Defender" was released by Netflix last January 20. The first season was an impressive introduction of the characters as viewers feel the nostalgia of the 80s animated series but with an updated input.

The second season remains the same but it ups the ante on the storyline as the series continues to move forward with its characters. Collider's online review of the animated series were positive because it takes advantage of the first season's character introduction. The second season focuses on character development not only for the heroes and their lions but also for their dangerous adversaries.
