It was in July 2016 when the science fiction television series "Wayward Pines" concluded its second installment. With the third installment still not confirmed, recent reports are saying that the third season of the series is going to happen.
It can be recalled that the first season of the series received numerous praises coming from critics. However, the second installment was said to have performed poorly, cites Deadline. The report also noted that the series is not yet dead.
The chairman of Fox, Gary Newman, said that "Wayward Pines" has not been cancelled. Although Newman did not specifically cite the reason of why the network has not yet started the production of the third installment, he noted that "Wayward Pines" did not come together in time that is why the series was not included in the summer line up of Fox. Newman added that the team is still talking about the casting, but he stated that the series will be back at some point in time.
On the other note, despite the fact that Fox has not yet confirmed "Wayward Pines" Season 3, GNG reported that the series might air sometime this year. The report emphasized that the possible long hiatus of the third installment is due to the fact that the second season underperformed with only 2.4 million viewers compared to the 3.8 million that the first season acquired.
Despite of this, the same publication noted that the production team of the show remains positive and have foreseen that there will be an increase in viewership for "Wayward Pines" Season 3, with an estimated 3.5 million viewers. It was also noted that the creator of the series, Chad Hodge, and the producer/director of the show, M. Night Shyamalan, have talked to Fox regarding the renewal of their show. Aside from that, the publication also noted the speculations that the series will have a crossover with "Stranger Things."
As of the moment, Fox has not yet released a statement that confirms the production of "Wayward Pines" Season 3, although Gary Newman already said that the show is not cancelled.
