South Korean actor Hyun Bin has recently shared his thoughts on how celebrities should take their roles as public figures.
During an interview for his upcoming film "Confidential Assignment" (also known as “Cooperation), the 34-year-old star expressed that actors should not run for office as it would forfeit their roles as entertainment personalities. Furthermore, he added that they should always be mindful of their actions especially because they serve as role models of the public.
“I think it is important for an actor to manage their public image. But an actor is not an elected public official. An actor is a celebrity… An actor isn’t someone who is voted in by the people, but just someone who is famous. I don’t think we need to be perfect and take responsibility for our actions, but since there are young people who look at us and follow us, I don’t think we can just say that we have no responsibilities, either,” said Hyun as quoted by Soompi.
He also stated: “… Before, there were times when I wanted to live my life how I wanted, instead of following the pattern set out as an actor, but these days, I’ve become so accustomed to living this designated life as an actor that it’s become uncomfortable to think of anything different. When I feel that way, I do feel a bit sad.”
Meanwhile, "Confidential Assignment" unfolds the story of two policemen from the North and South Korea who were given a secret mission to go after a high-valued criminal. It is set to open in theaters on January 25.
In the film, Hyun plays the character of a North Korean law enforcement officer named Lim Cheol Ryeong. Joining him is actor Yoo Hae Jin, a police detective and the South Korean counterpart of Hyun’s character, Yonhap News reports.
Hyun rose to fame through his portrayals in the TV dramas including “My Name Is Kim Sam Soon”, “Secret Garden”, and “Hyde, Jekyll, Me”. He is currently in a relationship with actress Kang So Ra.
