"Harry Potter" actor Ralph Fiennes and "Tomorrowland" actor Hugh Laurie are set to star opposite "Step Brothers" actor Will Ferrell and "Wreck-It Ralph" voice actor John C. Reilly in the comedy "Holmes and Watson." "Men in Black 3" writer Etan Cohen will be directing from his own script.
Ferrell is starring as Holmes and Reilly as his erstwhile sidekick Dr. Watson in "Holmes and Watson." Fiennes and Laurie's roles are still being kept locked up in the basement of 221B Baker St. However, the two is expected to slip on the shoes of two famed characters from the Holmes oeuvre, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
According to Variety, "Holmes and Watson" tells about a duo that faces off against enemies from across the globe. It features Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. "Once Upon A Time" writer Alan Menken is writing a full-throated love song.
"Holmes and Watson" will represent the third collaboration between Ferrell and Reilly following 2006 sports comedy "Talladega Nights" and 2008 comedy film "Step Brothers." It will be produced by Mosaic and Gary Sanchez. Jonathan Kadin is overseeing the pic for Columbia, while Chris Henchy and Jessica Elbaum are overseeing for Gary Sanchez Productions.
Fiennes recently appeared in scene-stealing work in the Coen Bros.' "Hail, Caesar!" He is nominated for an Oscar for Schindler's list and known in the world for playing Voldemort in the "Harry Potter" franchise movies. He also voiced a key character in stop-motion animation darling "Kubo and the Two Strings" and will lend his pipes to Bruce Wayne's butler named Alfred Pennyworth in "The Lego Batman Movie," which bows on Feb. 10.
Laurie was honored with a best supporting Golden Globe for playing avaricious arms dealer Richard Roper in AMC's limited series "The Night Manager." He also appeared in HBO's TV series "Veep" and stars in Hulu's series "Chance." He was last seen on the big screen as the villain in Disney's action film "Tomorrowland."
"Holmes and Watson" production is currently underway in London. It is set to be released in 2018.
